New Coats & Checking Up on Gizzy

We’ve got new coats (although Mummy calls them jumpers). 

A year ago Mummy always maintained that we would never have coats / jumpers as being working dogs we should be able to take care of ourselves in the winter.  But with us having to be kept under weight due to our elbows, and Hal suffering with the cold, Mummy decided to buy us something to keep us warm – and they arrived today. 

They are called jumpers because they have no velcro, zips or anything else to keep them on (and annoy us) – they go on over our heads and front legs just like jumpers.  And the come part way down our front legs so that our elbows are kept warm.  We’ve only tried them on briefly – we’ll try to get photos when we wear them for real.

We visited Gizzy this afternoon to see how he was getting on after his op.  Mummy says we were very good as we didn’t try to play with him, just leaving him to rest.  But as he will only walk on 3 legs at the moment and needs to be on a lead when out he didn’t join us for our walk 🙁

Oh, and we’re 22 months old today…

Poor Cousin Gizzy

Poor Cousin Gizzy had to be rushed to the vets today – Grandma thought his dew claw was looking a little strange this morning and made a note to mention that it was sticking out a bit when she next took him to the vets, but then this afternoon it seemed to be split and he wasn’t at all happy so Grandma made an emergency appointment for him.  We don’t know what happened as he was taken out the back to be treated, but he returned with his whole leg bandaged and he’s been given antibiotics. 

Gizzy kept trying to chew the bandage so Grandma went to the chemists and bought some baby socks for him – so now he’s copying Hal with the baby socks as well, although Hal uses them as an elbow warmer.  He’s not walking on his bandaged leg at the moment – if he doesn’t start walking on it Grandma won’t take him out for walks….

Snow Fun

It was lovely on our walk this morning – it had been snowing during the night so fresh snow was around everywhere and we got to leave our paw prints in the snow as we walked along.  Wonder if anyone will try to follow our paw prints and see where we walked.

Our garden looks like a battlefield, as we’ve been playing in the snow.

Brrrrrr

It was -5.8C (21.5F) when we got up for breakfast this morning, so Mummy gave us all our food and then we hibernated back to bed!

But it was still -5.1C (23F) when we went out for our walk, so Mummy let us wear our fluorescent coats as they at least have a bit of quilting in them.  We’re trying to persuade Mummy to get us some fashionable coats for Christmas – please help us in our mission.  Anyway, here’s photos of us in our coats today, and if you look really hard you can see the calming bands on our noses…

School Is Cancelled

I was so looking forward to school today – Mummy had spent yesterday evening preparing lovely yummy treats for me.  And then we got to the class to be told that Indie’s Mummy had a chest infection so the class was cancelled – there wasn’t much point in it just being us.  I hope Mummy gives me some of those treats just for being good…

No, Mummy didn’t give me many treats, so I had to find my own – and as it had been so cold overnight I found a pigeon that had died from the cold.  I was very good and shared it with Hal, Shandy & Casey…  Mummy didn’t approve, but served her right!

We had a few friends admire our new calming bands, so don’t know if they are going to get any.  Mummy certainly thinks it makes us calmer and and less frantic when we meet other people / dogs.

Hal was better behaved on the settee covers this evening, whilst I snuggled up on the new fleecy cover that Mummy bought for our big beds:

Nose Bands Have Arrived

Our new calming bands arrived today, so Mummy made us wear them for our walk this afternoon.  We met 4 different groups of dogs whilst we were out walking – with each group we either didn’t bark at all, or we barked less frantically than previously.  Mummy says it’s still early days, but the signs look positive – does that mean that we have to wear them again?
