Elbow Warmers

I’ve been struggling a bit with my elbow over the last couple of days.  Mummy thinks it might be because of the weather – it’s suddenly got quite a lot colder. So she’s been investigating some solutions for me, but not finding anything suitable Mummy has made her own elbow warmer for me – what do you think?

I’ve been wearing it this evening – it seems quite comfortable, and won’t stop me chasing that brother of mine.

Mummy’s been cutting another tree today – surely there’s no trees left to cut now.

Water and Heat

Mummy’s been washing our beds / bed covers over the last 2 days, and not wanting us to make them all messy immediately she decided to give us all a bath.  And then feeling sorry for us, she put the central heating on – she says it is to stop us getting cold and also so she can test it out this year, but I’m sure she’s not complaining.  Only problem is that one of her radiators has now started leaking – that’ll teach her!

We didn’t even get to go swimming before our bath – Mummy thought with Zen’s leg resembling a pin cushion after having to give blood yesterday it would be better if we waited until it had healed to prevent any risk of infection.  Oh Mummy, you do worry so!

I don’t know what our Cavie brothers have eaten this evening, but can we please have some of it – Casey has been chasing Shandy, and Shandy has been chasing the vacuum cleaner!

Passports

Mummy’s getting Zen and me passports so we never have to be left behind.  Only thing is our Cavie brothers got their passports many years ago and they’ve never been out of the UK or Republic of Ireland (which doesn’t need passports).  Oh well, perhaps one of these days we’ll get to go to Europe.

So, we had our first Rabies injections 4 weeks ago, and today it was time for our blood tests to check the vaccination had taken.  I was done first, and was easy – the nice nurse held my body whilst Mummy held my head and made a fuss of me and bingo, blood out on the first attempt.  Then it came Zen’s turn – oh, he was such a big baby and struggled like mad.  The vet had to shave his leg in the end to try to find a vein, but still couldn’t find one in his right leg, so it was all change and try the left – that was much easier, but now Zen has two matching bald patches on his front legs.  Note to Mummy – Zen has to have blood taken from his left leg in future.

The nice vet also checked my leg now that I’ve started to have off-lead walks, and he was happy with how it’s doing and the range of movement that I have.  So fingers crossed that will be the end of my operations now and I can get back to “normal”.

The vet also checked Zen’s ear as he got an infection on our holiday last month – that’s all cleared up nicely, so we both got a clean bill of health.

We also had our weight checked whilst at the vets – Mummy was concerned that we were getting a little too thin so had increased our food this last week and she wanted to check that our weight was still OK.  I weighed 16.8kg (same as last time) and Zen was 16.4kg (down 0.3kg on last time, but that’s about the right difference between us).

Since we’ve got home, Mummy has been very busy repairing 2 of our beds that Zen attacked whilst I was recovering from my op.  The zips were dead, so Mummy has replaced those with Velcro, and various holes have also been sewn up.  We’ve still got one bed in hospital, but think that one’s going to be a big job for Mummy.

Oh and we had a lovely walk this evening – Zen caught a pigeon, but I managed to get it off him – boy was that yummy.  Mummy wasn’t best pleased, though, so she put us on leads for the rest of the walk – although we told everyone that was because it was starting to get dark.

Cuddle Pup

Oh I just love cuddles from Mummy!  She thinks I’m so demanding as every spare minute I’m demanding cuddles from her, but why did she get us if she didn’t want to dedicate all her time to us?

As soon as her alarm goes off in the morning I jump straight on her, lie the length of her body and start washing her face for her – well, I do want to save her time so that she has more to spend on ME.  And it’s so lovely when we go to bed in the evening – I snuggle right up next to her and give her a great big hug.

I’m just glad Mummy has two arms / hands – one for me and one for Hal to share with our Cavie brothers.

Badgers and Rabbits

Mummy didn’t think we got badgers in our local field, but today Zen went off exploring and returned with half a dead badger – well, that proved Mummy wrong!  Mummy got it off him (can’t say he put up much of a fight), and quickly disposed of it.

But then later on our walk brother Casey found us a rabbit to chase.  The rabbit didn’t run for the nearest cover, so we got to chase it for a whole field’s length (half a field back towards Mummy, and then another half in the other direction).  We didn’t run at full speed so that 1) we could chase the rabbit for further – after all if we caught it the fun would be over and 2) brother Casey could keep up with us (he’s getting a bit slow these days – or is it we’re getting faster?)  It was such great fun, and Mummy didn’t seem to mind (although don’t tell my specialist as he did say I wasn’t meant to chase rabbits any more).

Swimming Fun

We’ve not been swimming since our holiday, so Mummy thought we’d like to have a chance to go again.  She took us to a place that I don’t think we’ve been to since Zen had his op over a year ago.  It was such fun there – so many new smells and places to explore.  We were so excited that we didn’t even worry about jumping up at cyclists or going to say hello to other dogs.  We all got to have a couple of swims, but Zen and I had an extra one when we jumped off the path into the water (our Cavie brothers were too cowardly to follow us).  I managed to clamber back out of the water, but that stupid brother of mine needed a little help to get out.  Oh it was such fun, but my leg is aching a bit now, and we are all sooooo tired.

Gardening – Again

Mummy has been in the garden for the 3rd weekend in a row.  Do you think we’re going to have any garden left at this rate?  She says that she’s getting it ready for the winter, and it’s taking longer this year as she didn’t do much last autumn (Zen and I were both confined to cages this time last year following our operations, and we didn’t like Mummy leaving us to go outside).  There certainly seems to be a lot of greenery disappearing, but our garden is getting lighter as a result.  Here are some photos of how the garden is looking:

I got to have some more walking time off lead today – I hope that Mummy will soon let me off for the full walk.
